Quinta do Arão is an organic citrus farm, nestled in a tranquil valley that forms part of an ecological reserve in the Algarve, Portugal. It is only a 10 minute drive from the nearest beach, Meia Praia and a 15 minute drive from the historical town of Lagos.

Calling Adventurous Wine Lovers
Quinta do Arao are proud to introduce a selection of locally produced wines from surrounding wineries available for sale in all our apartments. These wines are reasonably priced between 4 and 8 Euros per 750ml bottle and will be certain to give our guests an authentic flavour indigenous to the Western Algarve. The wines are not a Chateaux Neuf du Pap but a good Plonque de Noir from people such as our neighbour, Joao who grows grapes on his farm. We call his wine vinho do Joao. These wines are not produced for sale in stores and are exclusively sold to establishments such as Quinta do Arao.
This is part of our ongoing effort to promote local produce and support our local community. We will also have honey for sale, produced by our neighbour Joao, from beehives that are kept on our farm. Depending on the season, the honey will have either an orange blossom, rosemary or carob blossom flavour.
A Five Star Plus Experience
For those that enjoy gorgeous food and wine in the lap of luxury then look no further. Quinta do Arao are happy to announce that as from 2012, we will be organising wine tasting tours together with a three course meal at the Herdade dos Grous winery in the famous wine making region of the Alentejo. The vineyard we have chosen has a five star restaurant together with a five star winery and an olive oil producing facility. The wine farm is truly worthy of it’s five star accolade. We will arrange a day trip for you and your family to this little piece of Portuguese paradise. We also offer a child minding service for parents wanting a well deserved day off. We are well placed for Palmares Golf course, A Rocha bird sanctuary, Vale de Ferro Horse riding center and the Autodromo racing circuit.
There are 3 self catering apartments on the farm that can be rented separately or together (subject to availability) making it ideal for large gatherings. All three apartments have been modernised and each has their own private terrace, shared use of a swimming pool and wonderful landscaped grounds. There are also wood burning fireplaces in each apartment - perfect for those slightly cooler autumn evenings. The property extends over 6 hectares and sustains over 280 orange trees amongst others such as lemon, fig, olive, almond, pomegranate and grapefruit trees. It is an ideal setting for a relaxing holiday with family or friends either lazing by the pool or enjoying a walk in the surrounding countryside. Children are most welcome and guests are welcome to help themselves to whatever fruit is in season. Quinta do Arão takes pride in supporting the local community where possible and being kind to the environment. We encourage the support of local, family run businesses and we can provide information concerning local farmers markets, where to find the best local produce such as honey and home made liqueurs, traditional local restaurants, when and where the local festivals and 'festas' take place, where to find traditional local arts and crafts such as hand painted ceramics that the Algarve is renowned for.
